The lake freighter Ridgetown now serves as a breakwater, protecting the Port Credit harbour against tides and storm surges. Built by the Chicago Shipbuilding Company, and originally launched as SS William E. Corey in 1905, it was active as a merchant ship in the Great Lakes until the 1970s. It was brought to its present location in 1974.
